MEET THE CMSA LONG ISLAND BOARD MEMBERS

 

President : Coleen Cox-Ballah, RN, MS-HCM, CCM, GCM

Coleen has been a RN for 25+ years. She works at VNSNY as Team Manager for a team of nurses, SWs and PTs who provide care management services for elderly members of a Medicaid/Medicare managed care program. She is a certified case manager and a geriatric care manager. She has been a member of CMSA LI for four years and is prepared to promote the activities of the organization.

Immediate Past President: Margaret Chu BSN,MPA,RNC,CCM, CPHQ

Margaret has been active in the case management and quality management profession for over 20 years, working in the managed care, hospital, and home health care settings. She is currently the Director of Case Management/ Social Work at NSLIJ Huntington Hospital. Margie was recognized as Distinguished Case Manager of the Year by CMSA in 2000. She speaks frequently on various case management topics at both the local and national levels. She is an advocate for case management and has served on both the local and national boards, including Past President of CMSA LI, VP and Board member of the national CMSA. She has published numerous articles on case and quality management and currently serves on the Boards of CMSALI and the Case Management Foundation.

Vice President: Joan Geagan, RN, CCM

Joan has been a nurse for over 30 years. Her clinical experience includes ICU, ER, Home Care and Wound Care. She has been a Case Manager and member of CMSA for over 10 years. Joan has worked for Managed Medicaid, self insured groups, TPA's and is currently a Case Manager on the Stroke Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Cathy Pistone is a graduate of Molloy College and is the Director of Community Relations at VNA of LI.  Her experience includes working in MCH/NICU and in Community Health/ Home Care for the past 25 years.

Secretary:  Kathryn A. Schumacher, RN, BSN, CCM, LNC

Kathie is a graduate of Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing and has been involved in Case Management for the past seven years.  In her current position at YAI Home Health Services, she provides care coordination to individuals with intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities as well as brain injury survivors.  During her almost forty years in nursing, Kathie has experience working in managed care, acute care, home care, and nursing education in various clinical and administrative positions.

Director: Patricia Costello, RNBC

Patricia is a graduate of the Kings County School of Nursing, earned a BS in Health Administration with a concentration in Health Staff Development from St. Josephs College.  She is ANCC citified in Medical Surgical Nursing. She has practiced in many areas of acute care including cardiology, ICU, med-surg and L&D. She is a Care Manager at Good Samaritan Hospital and is an active member of CMSALI.  Patricia believes CMSA provides the continued education and support necessary for the professional development of Case Managers and is interested in supporting the organization through the role of Director.

Director: Rochelle (Shelly) Rossi

Shelly Rossi is an Account Infusion Liaison for Advanced Care Inc., a licensed pharmacy and nursing agency. Her responsibilities include establishing long term relationships with case managers and social workers in hospitals. Shelly has been an active member of CMSA LI for several years serving on the Hospitality and Conference committees.

Director: Carole Schneider RN CM CPUR

Carole Schneider has been a nurse for 30 +yrs. She graduated from Catholic Medical Center School of Nursing. Her experience includes working in the areas of Med –Surg, Critical care, CHHA and Licensed home care. She also has experience working as a Pharmaceutical representative. She has been an acute care Care Manager at Good Samaritan Hospital for 10yrs. During this time her experience included working on the units, in the presurgical area and Appeals. Carole is a CPUR and is applying for her CCM. She has been an active member of the CMSALI 6yrs and was on the BOD of CMSA in the past. At present she is now serving as a board of director for the CMSALI.

Director: Andrea Cowles RN BSN MA

Andrea Cowles is a registered nurse with over 25 years of nursing and management experience. Andrea holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a Masters of Art in Health Administration from Hofstra University .

Andrea began her career as a public health nurse before joining Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk in 1990, where she is currently the Director of Intake & Service Development. Prior to joining VNSHS, Ms. Cowles was a Clinical Care Manager for Family Care Certified Services of Nassau and a Community Health Nurse at North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System.

Andrea is a member of the Case Management Society of America*, the Senior Umbrella Network of Suffolk County, Huntington Town Women’s Advisory Council and the Lutheran Long Term Home Care Professional Advisory Committee.
